Reb Bottoms No More? Christian Louboutin Vs. Yves Saint Laurent

Early July, Noted Fashion Designers Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent spent time in court battling against YSL using the trademark "red bottom" sole for their 2011 cruise collection. YSL's lawyer,David Bernstein, began to enlighten the court room with a few moments in fashion that could possibly go in YSL's favor of using the trademark red sole, he argued that Yves Saint Laurent had been using red soles since 1962 (when they were founded!) and even icons throughout history, such as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and King Louis XIV of France indeed wore red soles! His question for the jury as well as the judge was whether or not a Designer could monoplolise and trademark a colour. Personally, no one should be able to have power of a colour, but the bigger picture is, why now? Now that Christian Louboutin's lavish designer shoes have made such a success and gained mass popularity is it now appropriate to introduce red soles for an upcoming collection. I personally admire originality and any staples in fashion that are unique but it takes a true artist to dig deep within their artistic abilities and create the next craze- but hey that's just my opinion!

Tiiu Kuik: "Woman Spain" shot by Max Abadian

Model, Tiiu Kuik's latest shoot entitled "Woman Spain" is the epitome of why I do not want summer to end. With photography by Max Abadain, and wardrobe styled by Oscar Visitación, this team took extraordinary to another level! The bold colour contrasts and structured pieces definitely adds a spin to the traditional woman, bringing her up to speed for summer 2012, or what's left of summer 2011!

Cassie who?: Cassie's super sexy cover for Blank Magazine

Singer/Model/Acrtess Cassandra Ventura aka Cassie,(one of my favs) is known for her many talents within the entertainment industry, but I've always been a huge fan of her modeling. She covers Blank magazine's July 11 cover, where she graces the pages with her side sweep edgy hair cut, and flirtatious outfits that demand every bit of attention. Once you see these pics you'll want to know just WHO Cassie is if you aren't a huge fan like myself! Check out the interview as well.

Cassie is still succeeding as a model while she works on her upcoming album. She recently posed for photographer duo Gomillion and Leupold for the August 2011 issue of Blank magazine – we’ve never heard of it, but the pics look amazing! Classic cars and yards serve as a backdrop to Cassie’s big hair and colorful outfits.

What do you most value from your multicultural Heritage?

I love that I am me. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
I have so many influences musically. My parents always played music in the house when I was growing up in CT. The music they played ranged from Parliament Funkadelic to Carol King to Stevie Wonder. As an artist I think that the music you’re exposed to when your young influences the music you choose to create. I also went through a Jimi Hendrix phase, it was interesting. I used to listen to him on my dads old 8-track player. I was in love with Janet Jackson and of course Aaliyah.

You’ve collaborated with some of the music industry’s biggest names. Who would you like to work with someday?
Prince would be amazing. Isn’t that everyone’s answer to that?
We heard you’re working on a new album. Can you give us a sneak peak?
Its top secret! (smiles) I’m going to let the music speak for itself. The one thing I will say is I love it.

Do you have any pre-stage rituals?
Chill with my friends catch a vibe… I don’t need much. Candles, candy, wine and before I even think about hitting the stage- a prayer.

You are a spokeswoman for Carol’s Daughter beauty products. What qualities do you admire in its founder Lisa Price?

She is just really kind, talented and its great to see how far a girl and a dream can get.
Would you ever consider acting or being on TV?
I’ve done a few things. I would love to act more; film is ideal for me. Its something I want to devote more time to – for sure. I would love to work with David Fincher or Oliver Stone.
What are the pros and cons of being a quadruple threat?
Wow that sounds pretty epic. I don’t know that I see it that way. Honestly, I feel blessed that I get to do what I do and be creative that I just try to focus on constantly growing and being the best Cassie I can be.

What would you be doing today if you hadn’t become a performer?
I’d be a chef or a museum owner I’m into modern art.

Not many people can pull of a half shaved head, but it looks very hot on you! Do you consider yourself a risk taker?
My hair wasn’t a risk to me. I just did it. Loved it, still love it actually. And am I a risk taker?! You gotta live, no risk no reward. Life is boring if you paint inside the lines.

Do women really fake it?: The art of masquerade labels

Many of the average working class women and men are constantly smitten with the designer labels left right and centre. From the co-worker with the amazing shiny gold Michael Kors watch, to the louis vuitton speedy in almost every customers hand, I can definately vouch for anyone that is tortured daily with these high priced beauties. There are some creative individuals out there that study the art of taking something old and turning it into, well literally some brand new Christian Louboutin pumps! According to Rachel Quigley's article, "Faking it", women all over new york are visiting their local cobbler in the upper east side, for a $32 "red bottom treatment", taking their pumps and painting the bottom red to match the sleek and seductive Christian Louboutin Red staple. This got me thinking, are all those Damier Azur speedys clung by all the women that come to shop where I work real? If you visit Kijiji, you can find many people selling replicas for more than HALF the price and if you are not a fashion junkie, you would not be able to decipher the difference. Certain websites such as, http://www.kkajhuuh.com offer you the brand name for over 50% off, but my guess is that they are replicas. As a true fashion junkie and lover, I would much rather wait till I'm able to buy the authentic products beautiful luxury designers have to offer. But kudos to the women that pull it off with ease!

Fashionably Late: DUY LG TORONTO FASHION WEEK!

During fashion week I got the chance to work with Duy, from DUY clothing, and he was a doll! His line was filled with luxurious furs and elaborate pieces. Although I'm anti-fur these pieces were definitely a sight to see. He covered every piece you could think of for fall 2012. They were all 70s inspired pieces, from floor length skirts, fur vests, leather jackets, tweed suits, the bell bottom business pant, etc. After I assisted him with finishing touches and finalizing looks he hurried me out to make sure I got to see the show! I had such a blast Duy!
